Worship thru Music ' |
|
' Worship thru Music
' is a group of musicians who
lead the church in worship each Sunday morning
through the use of song.
Our aim is to encourage
people to come into the presence of God and
express their praise, adoration and worship to
God in the way that He is leading them.

|
We meet together on a Thursday evening to
practice for the coming Sunday, but we also
spend some time praying, reading the Bible and
seeking God. We have recently been reading
passages from Tim Hughes’ book “Passion for Your
Name” and using this as the basis for a brief
time of discussion about various aspects of
worship and as an inspiration for us as we seek
to develop our role in leading the church in
worship. |

We have many talented musicians in the group
including 2 drummers, a flautist, a bass player,
2 keyboard players, a saxophonist (who also
plays the wind synthesiser), 3 acoustic
guitarists and 5 vocalists (2 of which also play
instruments); but more importantly, we have one
thing in common – we are passionate about
worshipping God.

'Sing
and make music in your heart to the Lord'
Ephesians 5:19

|
When the Holy Spirit moves amongst His
people He inspires much creativity,
including the writing of new songs to the
glory of God.
In the past few years at WBC we have begun
to see the creation of new songs of worship
and praise, as well as songs of prayer,
prophecy and testimony. Many of these songs
have been presented to the church by
individuals or groups, for encouragement,
exhortation or comfort, whereas others have
been congregational songs, sung as part of
our worship together.
When we respond to the touch of God on our
lives by writing new songs, the songs
produced may reflect our own individual
gifting or personality, as well as our own
personal walk with God. Like the loaves
and fishes offered by a small boy to Jesus
with which He fed over 5000 people, the Lord
can take our offering of a new song and
bless it and multiply it so that it can be a
blessing to many people.
We are blessed at WBC with
gifted musicians who can take a new song in
its simple form and can work on it together
to produce a piece of music that conveys the
heart of the song to the heart of the
listener. So God encourages us to work
together as we express the individual gifts
He has given us in music and song.

Testimony |

I began writing new songs
about 6 years ago after a clear prompting by
the Holy Spirit. There are different ways to
compose new songs – for me the words tend to
come first with or without the new tune. The
words and tune may develop together, or the
words may be complete before I have begun to
think about any music. Sometimes the songs
are completed in basic form very quickly,
others develop over a period of time.
I compose the music by singing it first,
rather than using an instrument. This means
that for me the hard work then begins, as I
work on the accompaniment after the song is
complete – usually on the guitar.
My songs are usually a
response to the touch of God in my own life
– maybe following a new revelation or
understanding of God, and often as a result
of setting aside time to spend with my
heavenly Father. I rarely make a conscious
decision to write a new song - the song
usually starts to come to me, and then it is
up to me whether I pursue this prompting and
work to develop the seeds of the song.
Writing new songs is a joy
and a blessing to me, but the main desire of
my heart is that all my songs glorify the
One who inspires them.
I have been involved in the
production of a CD of some of our new songs
- ' Overflowing ' – and a second CD
is at present being recorded.
Information relating to the CDs, together
with words and music for many of the songs,
and downloadable audio files, can be found

'
Only You deserve the glory
and the praise,
Only You, Lord, I will follow
all my days,
Just to You I’ll give the
worship of my heart,
Only You, I’ll have no other
Lord but You,
Only You.' |
