The issue of child protection is very much to the fore these days, and here at Willesborough Baptist Church we believe that as God's people we have a clear obligation to do all we can to ensure that children in our care are protected from harm of all kinds. In order to achieve this, the church has approved a child protection policy and adopted guidelines on child protection for the local church and its youth leaders, produced by the Baptist Union and known as ' Safe to Grow '. The church has also appointed a Child Protection Officer,  to oversee the appointment of children's workers and provide training in child protection issues.

National organisations which form part of the church's youth work, operate child protection policies relative to that organisation. Additionally, all children's workers are required to apply for an Enhanced Certificate from the Criminal Records Bureau. We hope that this procedure will both reassure parents and ensure the protection of workers and children.

Any person wishing to volunteer to work with children will be interviewed informally by the Child Protection Officer and the organisational leader concerned. He or she is then required to complete an application form and references are taken up before the volunteer starts work with the children
